After accumulating all of the necessary gear we set out on our first overnight hike, we chose to go up Elk Mountain. Elk is a beautiful trail that is an easy 20 minute drive from the house. Although it's fairly steep it isn't super long (800m elevation gain over 4.5km) and at the end you get an awesome view of the valley and surrounding mountains. This hike gives you great bang for your buck, fantastic views, close to Chilliwack, can be done in any type of vehicle and can comfortably (hiker in decent shape) be completed in 3 hours.
